This webinar presentation was intended for program managers and data managers, who need more information about the families they serve, their communities or their workforce.

First Dr. Roger Tourangeau, presented the nuts and bolts of when to use surveys, the pros and cons of different modes of surveys, and many of the questions to ask before planning a survey. Dr. Tourangeau, currently at Westat, and formerly the Director, Joint Program in Survey Methodology, is the lead author of The Psychology of Survey Response, a classic reference that examines the processes through which survey respondents answer questions. In recent work, he studies the use of audio and visual presentation of survey questions and the capability of interaction with the respondent, methods especially useful in the collection of sensitive information

Our second presenter was Dr. Ruth Huebner, a consultant with the NRC-CWDT. She has been the Child Welfare Researcher for the Kentucky Department of Community Based Services since 2001. She has successfully completed many large evaluation research activities and has more than 30 publications and numerous grant activities. Her passion is helping others to understand and use the results of research to improve outcomes for children and families. Dr. Huebner shared examples of surveys she has used in the child welfare field that demonstrate some helpful comments for designing, implementing, and displaying results of survey research.
